Виртуальный миди кабель loopmidi

В Windows, устройства миди автоматически соединяется с выходом MIDI по умолчанию, которым обычно является тон генератор «Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth», идущий в комплекте со всеми версиями Windows. Этот синтезатор MIDI производит звук очень низкого качества и обладает большими задержками между нажатием клавишей и воспроизведением звука. Лучшей (и свободной) альтернативой является CoolSoft Virtual MIDI Synth.

Для соединения аппартатных MIDI устройств используются миди кабели, и USB миди кабели.

Для использования популярных VST синтезаторов совместно с миди плеером или программным миди контроллером необходим виртуальный миди кабель. В Windows можно использовать такие MIDI кабели, как например: MIDI Yoke, Maple, LoopBe1, Sony Virtual MIDI Router или loopMIDI.

В процессе установки виртуального MIDI кабеля будут установлены драйвер и апплет панели управления, в котором можно изменять доступное количество MIDI портов.

Виртуальный MIDI кабель работает, посылая каждое событие MIDI, записанное на OUT порт, на соответствующий IN порт. Например, MIDI Assist можно соединить с выходом порта 1, а другая программа, к примеру VST Host, может считывать события с порта 1.

Sometimes you need to run applications (like sound recorders or music production programs) that require having MIDI ports opened on your system, but this condition cannot be met because of all kinds of reasons (the MIDI ports are used for other tasks, the MIDI ports are not available at all, etc.). In such cases, giving up on your task is not the only way to follow, as you can simply resort to creating and using virtual MIDI ports.

loopMIDI is a tiny app that lets you create and use virtual loopback MIDI ports. In fact, it makes use of the virtualMIDI driver to create the virtual ports, but in addition to the virtual driver, it also offers a handy and neat way to control and configure the ports. You may also tweak advanced settings like the sysex buffer size or the feedback detection value.

Another remarkable advantage of loopMIDI comes from the fact that the ports created with this tool will cease to exist once the app is closed. They’ll be up and running only while loopMIDI is also running, so you will be able to avoid having the ports interfere with other apps and creating unwanted situations. Furthermore, the ports are unique for each user.

In conclusion, if you ever need to create and use virtual MIDI ports, you should try this tool, as it’s neat, handy, and best of all, completely free.

Windows 10 compatibility

After not having posted for quite some time, now a short status-update:

Finally, I have officially released new versions of loopMIDI, rtpMIDI and the virtualMIDI SDK
Those versions (and various predecessors) have been available in the Beta stuff section for some time now.
All of those have been tested with the latest Windows versions up to Windows 10.
Thanks to everyone who has given me valuable feedback to improve the software over the years!

loopMIDI and rtpMIDI updated

Like promised a couple of days ago, my new versions of loopMIDI and rtpMIDI are now up for download. Next to some bug-fixes, I have also changed the UI of loopMIDI a little and both programs are now multiclient due to the new virtualMIDI-driver that both are using.

Software update imminent

I finally had time to add multi-client capabilities to my virtualMIDI-driver. As soon as I have finished updating the installers of rtpMIDI and loopMIDI, both of those will have this new capability and I will upload new versions here…

Multi-client means, that each created virtual MIDI-port can be opened by multiple applications at the same time (currently limited to 8 concurrent applications).

As the temporary removal of the download for loopMIDI and rtpMIDI seems to have caused some grievances, I have restored the download again…
